Israel Rounds Up Palestinian Protesters as World Looks Away

PALESTINIAN ACTIVISTS URGED the world not to look away from their struggle for freedom and equality following the ceasefire in Gaza, as Israeli police began rounding up Palestinian citizens of Israel who took part in demonstrations described as riots by the authorities. At least 74 Palestinians were detained by Monday afternoon, in the first hours of what Israel’s police force is calling “Operation Law and Order.” Palestinian rights groups called the planned arrest of up to 500 protesters — on charges ranging from attacks on the police to vandalism to online incitement — a blatant crackdown on dissent, timed to coincide with the dimming of the global spotlight on the conflict.

North Carolina Judge Summoned To Court After Allegedly Ramming SUV Into BLM Protest

A summons was issued last week for a judge in Fayetteville, North Carolina, requesting he appear in court in his own county on an assault with a deadly weapon charge after he was allegedly caught on camera almost striking Black Lives Matters protesters with his SUV earlier this month.

Judge John M. Tyson will be served with summons to appear in Cumberland County court after one of the protesters, Myah Warren, said she was nearly run over by the judge in his state-owned SUV while protesting.

(…)

a 12-minute video of the incident posted by the Post and provided by the city does not show Tyson’s vehicle surrounded by angry protesters. What it does show is Tyson’s vehicle actually looping back around to the protests after an initial pass and driving in a lane closed to traffic and allegedly attempting to plow into protesters

East Jerusalem Settlement Push Shows Israel “Apartheid”

UNDER ISRAELI LAW, Palestinian Jerusalemites whose houses were taken in 1948 are deemed “absentees” and have no legal claim to their property, but Jewish citizens of Israel who can prove that a house was owned by a Jewish person do have recourse. It needn’t even be the Jewish family that owned the home, meaning that powerful, well-funded settler organizations with ties abroad can also claim the properties. This legal disparity is the auspices under which the impending evictions are being carried out.
